Live/Work Studios at the Brio
2021 | New Apartment Units | Brio Community, Glendale, CA
The client, Sequoia Equities, Inc., commissioned GB Architecture to convert 4 large unleasable retail spaces into 5 Live/Work Studios within the existing Brio Apartment Community.
Part of the challenge was to convince the city to allow such use from retail to apartments then comply with accessibility requirements and direct access from Colorado Street, which is a main thoroughfare across the city.
The overall design took advantage of the very tall spaces and large storefront windows to create dynamic spaces with floating ceilings, industrial style lighting, smooth polished concrete floors, and exposed the various textures of the concrete structure. These loft style cues were softened with wood kitchen cabinet finishes, warm color countertops, and strategic placement of warm lighting and engineered wood finishes. In the end, these units have become sought after spaces.
